Lobs explosive shells high into the air to destroy enemy buildings from long range.
Historical Description Edit
A mortar is a weapon that fires bombs or shells in a high arc, allowing for indirect fire over obstacles like walls. Early incarnations of mortars were ponderous, difficult to transport and used primarily in siege warfare. As a response to the stalemate in the Western Front during WWI, Englishman Sir Wilfred Stokes developed the first man-portable tactical mortar that bears his name, the Stokes Trench Mortar. This weapon was more effective than conventional artillery at bombarding trenches and was particularly useful for killing enemy infantry. Trenches were often dug in zig-zag fashion to minimize the effects of a direct hit on a single segment of the line.
