Manfred von Richthofen was a legendary German fighter pilot in WWI. His nickname came from the distinctive color of his Fokker Dr.I triplane. Richthofen's air victories were the most of any pilot during the war, earning him title 'Ace of Aces'. In Germany, he was a famous war hero celebrated in state propaganda. Among the Allies, he was so well respected that they buried him with full military honors when they finally shot him down.
