General Information Edit
Historical Description Edit
"Egypt is one of the most ancient civilizations on Earth. By the time the Greeks learned how to write, the pyramid complex at Giza was already thousands of years old!
Under the New Kingdom in the Late Bronze Age, powerful pharaohs like Hatshepsut, Thutmose III, and Ramesses II expanded Egypt's influence to its greatest extent. Queen Nefertiti introduced the revolutionary idea of monotheism into Egyptian religion. These pharaohs worked with Assyrian, Hittite, and Babylonian kings to maintain a balance of power for centuries until their kingdom collapsed at the end of the Bronze Age.
Since then, Egypt has been governed by a mix of mative and foreign regimes. These have included Roman, Ottoman, and British occupations as well as the powerful Fatimid Caliphate and Mamluk Sultanate, both ruled from Cairo. The modern Republic of Egypt was established in 1953 and remains a significant regional power.
